This past weekend, I had the pleasure of photographing Katelyn’s senior portraits at one of the most picturesque spots in Colorado—a collection of serene ponds tucked away from the hustle of daily life. The location couldn’t have been more perfect for her shoot, especially as the sun began to set, casting a warm, golden light over the water and surrounding landscape.
Katelyn arrived with a bright energy that mirrored the setting. She had chosen a simple yet elegant wardrobe—light, flowy dresses that complemented the natural beauty around us. As the sun dipped lower, the colors in the sky softened into hues of pink, orange, and lavender, reflecting off the ponds and creating a magical backdrop.
One of my favorite shots was when Katelyn stood at the water’s edge, the golden sunlight filtering through her hair, with the glassy surface of the pond stretching out behind her. It was one of those moments where everything aligned—the light, the reflections, and her natural ease in front of the camera.
The ponds offered so much variety. From rustic wooden bridges to tall grasses swaying gently in the breeze, every angle gave us a new look, but Katelyn was always the highlight. Her joyful personality shone through in every frame, whether she was laughing or just pausing to take in the peaceful surroundings.
By the end of the session, the sun had nearly disappeared behind the mountains, leaving us with a breathtaking silhouette of Katelyn against the glowing horizon. It was the perfect way to close out the shoot, and I couldn’t be more excited for Katelyn to see the final results. Her senior year is off to a beautiful start, and I’m so grateful to have captured a small piece of it!
Photographing Katelyn at sunset by the ponds was a reminder of how important it is to match the energy of the person you’re shooting with the environment around them. Katelyn brought the light, and the Colorado sunset did the rest.
