Echoes by the Water: The Hyms’ Indie Rock Photoshoot at Horsetooth Reservoir
As a photographer, there’s something electric about working with musicians—especially indie bands like The Hyms, a talented group of guys with raw energy and big dreams. When they reached out to me for band photos, I knew I wanted to take them somewhere that matched their sound: bold, natural, and a little unpredictable. Horsetooth Reservoir, with its rugged landscapes and sweeping views, felt like the perfect backdrop.
The day of the shoot, as we hiked to a few different spots around the reservoir, it became clear that The Hyms are as laid-back as their music is lively. We found a rocky ledge that overlooked the water, and the scene couldn’t have been better for capturing their spirit.
Throughout the shoot, I tried to blend their personalities with the natural surroundings. The light bounced off the water just right, and the band members, laughing and joking between shots, gave me plenty of candid moments. I wanted their authenticity to shine through the lens—showing them as they are, not just as performers but as friends who are all in on this adventure together.
By the end of the day, I had a gallery full of photos that not only captured The Hyms as a band but as a group of college friends chasing a dream. Horsetooth Reservoir gave us an unforgettable setting, but it’s their energy and camaraderie that really made the shoot special. Keep an eye on these guys—I have a feeling their music will take them far.
Until the next shoot, keep creating and exploring!
